Two of the best Chevy Big Blocks: 454 and 502
The chevy big blocks are a series of large displacement V8 engines which are developed in US during the year 1950s and 1960s. After the World War II, engine powering became important and then Chevrolet introduced V8 machines which would power the heavy duty trucks. Among blocks of V8 engines, 502 big block and chevy 454 engine are the most popular for those who want lots and lots of power.
The chevy 454 engine originated in 1970, where the bore was 4.25 inches and stroke 4.00 inches. The LS5 version of the engine has the capacity to produce 291 kW and the LS6 version has power capacity of 340 kW. However, many experts opined that LS6 version has been underrated since it has the capacity of producing nearly 370 kW. The chevy 454 engine has another version of 465 hp which was designed during 70s but never used in production. Instead, few handful LS7 intake manifolds were created which were sold by the chevy dealers as performance parts.
Another V8 small block is 502 big block which were used in various fleet services during the early 80s and 90s. This particular V8 big block had a bore of 4.46 and a stroke of four inches. Later companies like GM offered performance parts catalog which is available as the multiple crate motors having a horse power of 470lb-ft in form of base and deluxe packages. The 502 big block has variation like ram-jet 502 crate motors which has fuel injection units and is designed with a turnkey setup that includes the wiring and all the electrical requirements which are needed in any vehicle.
The Chevy 454 engine and 502 big block engines are among the most remarkable engines produced in the auto industry. They were simple without twin overhead camshafts or the ability to rev very fast, but produce plenty of torque and power thanks to they huge size of their displacements.
